Often considered the best live rhythm section in jazz, bassist William Parker and drummer Hamid Drake have played together in numerous bands since the 1990s and are key figures in international avant-jazz. In 2014, saxophonist John Dikeman invited them to join him in a trio, and since then they have released several albums and toured throughout Europe. Five years later, with the arrival of trumpeter Luís Vicente, another name at the forefront of European improvisers, the group evolved into a quartet, releasing the album Goes Without Saying, but It’s Got to Be Said. Tonight’s concert at Casa da Música, in which William Parker is replaced by British musician John Edwards, owner of a unique language that challenges the limits of the acoustic bass, is part of the tour to present the group’s second and new album.
