Since its founding in 2014, the João Roiz Ensemble has performed in numerous well-attended seasons and diverse programs, aiming to engage national audiences and maintain a continuous interaction with built heritage, in collaboration with a wide range of soloists. Its concerts are frequently broadcast by RTP - Antena 2, which is a long-standing partner of the Ensemble. The group’s repertoire spans the great chamber music literature from the second half of the 18th century to the present day, with a primary focus on canonical works for quartet and quintet. In addition, the Ensemble pursues aesthetic diversification and reflective encouragement of new compositions, commissioning and premiering works by Portuguese composers such as Nuno Corte-Real, Alexandre Delgado, Fernando Lapa, Luís Tinoco, César Viana, Tiago Derriça, among others, always in dialogue with the regional context in which it operates. During the current season, the João Roiz Ensemble is undertaking an extensive national tour of concerts titled “Beethoven Pilgrimage 2025–2027”, in which, in collaboration with Alexandre Delgado and with support from RTP-Antena 2, it will perform Beethoven’s complete chamber music in theatres and festivals across the country.
