The practice of Vanessa Barragão unfolds through a deep engagement with textiles, sustainability, and marine ecosystems. Using traditional techniques such as latch hook, crochet, and tapestry, the artist creates large-scale compositions that evoke underwater landscapes, where texture, color, and density intertwine in an organic and immersive visual language.
Working primarily with textile industry waste, her process is both an act of recovery and transformation, reflecting on the environmental impact of mass production and the fragility of ocean life. Her works function as evolving ecosystems—living forms that seem to grow, expand, and, at times, dissolve.
At FISGA, this exhibition invites visitors into a sensory immersion within Barragão’s universe, in collaboration with Grandpa's Studio, where the exhibition space becomes an enveloping environment, encouraging audiences to slow down, observe, and reconsider the relationship between material, time, and nature.
