The story centres on Elsa, an advertising director whose mother dies during the Christmas season. Unable to cope with her grief, she throws herself into her work, trying to escape the pain of her loss. When a panic attack forces her to slow down, Elsa decides to take a break and travel to the island of Lanzarote, in the Canary Islands, with her friend Patrícia, whilst her partner Bonifacio stays behind in Madrid. At the same time, the film follows Raúl Durán, a screenwriter and film director, and explores the intersection between life and fiction, blending the characters’ personal experiences with the reflective narrative elements typical of Almodóvar’s world.
