My Own Witness: Rupture and Repair is a collaborative portrait series that features individuals who felt invisible and un-entitled after Trump's election in the U.S. Through their portrait sessions, they assert their identity and subjectivity by telling stories through pose, gesture, and props, inviting the viewer to encounter their humanity. The portraits were ripped to express personal and societal wounds, and then, inspired by the Japanese practice of Kintsugi – which repairs broken pottery while highlighting and honoring the scars from injuries the torn portraits were restored with gold rice paper and thread, underscoring the need to mend our wounds and simultaneously acknowledging our history.
This exhibition is in collaboration with Incubator Gallery and PsiRelacional Associação de Psicanálise Relacional.
