The Coliseu Porto Ageas premieres a new production of "Rigoletto", one of the most powerful dramas in the operatic repertoire.
Giuseppe Verdi's masterpiece plunges us into a world of power, seduction, and revenge. In the dissolute court of the Duke of Mantua, the jester lives to mock, insult, and humiliate. But behind the mask of ridicule lies a father who loves his daughter Gilda with an almost desperate tenderness, hiding her from the world like the last treasure guarded within a palace of vice.
It is precisely this blind, possessive, all-consuming love that will become his undoing. And when the court decides to take its revenge, it is the very thing he holds most precious that becomes the instrument of his destruction.
For this drama, Verdi composed music of extraordinary force: stormy, intimate, irresistible. From the elegant cynicism of "La donna è mobile" to the silent devastation of the final act, "Rigoletto" leaves no one untouched — not the first-time listener, nor those who know it by heart.
An opera that speaks of power and powerlessness, of love and loss, with the brutal clarity of one unafraid to look into the depths of things — presented here in a new premiere production. A Coliseu commission to Ópera na Academia e na Cidade. Not to be missed.
English and Portuguese subtitles.
