On May 6th, at 3:00 PM, an Open Lecture entitled "Portraits of Music in the City of Porto" will be held by Professor Sónia Duarte.
The session, with free admission, will take place in the Music Room of Menina Colina Guesthouse, Porto — R. Dr. Alberto Aires de Gouveia 17.
Description: This session is dedicated to musical iconography, focusing on the set of eight portraits of composers painted in the Music Room of Menina Colina. The analysis examines these portraits as historical documents and their inscription in the musical history of Porto, establishing relationships with other Portuguese and European cycles — from the humanist models of the 16th century to the galleries of musicians from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. The methodological framework is based on the treatise by Francisco de Holanda, Da Pintura Antiga (1548), written in Porto and completed in Santarém, integrating its principles into the reading of the works. The session includes selected listenings that articulate image, style, and musical reception. An additional 10 places have been reserved for members of the academic community, available upon registration.
