Art by Dolores

João Mesquita presents his debut album Olheiras, a deeply introspective work that conveys raw, unfiltered emotions without following structured narratives. The artist approaches composition as a direct expression of what he feels in the moment, exploring themes such as loneliness, longing, anger, jealousy, but also friendship, joy, and hope. Olheiras was produced by João Mesquita with co-production by João Borsch and features contributions from over 20 musicians: the album blends guitars, keyboards, bass, drums, and vocals, incorporating orchestral elements and synthesizers. Its influences range from classical music and film scores (Wagner, Herrmann, Badalamenti) to mainstream pop (Olivia Rodrigo, Dua Lipa, The Weeknd) and MPB (João Bosco, Bala Desejo).
The title Olheiras symbolizes maturity and the emotional and physical effort invested in the project. The album will be released on January 30, 2026.
“Filho da Mãe” is the latest single, released on January 19. It’s the most pop-oriented track on the album, mixing 80s synths with acoustic instruments while maintaining a subtle melancholy. The music video, directed by Dolores, humorously portrays the dynamics of the couple described in the song.
