To mark the 5th anniversary of the highly acclaimed collaborative composition that Floating Points (Sam Shepherd) recorded with the late tenor saxophonist and jazz legend Pharoah Sanders, alongside the London Symphony Orchestra, Music on Music presents its first-ever event in partnership with Music and Riots and Luaka Bop: a free listening session of Promises, accompanied by a rare screening of Promises: Through Congress and a live Q&A with special guest Trevor Tweeten.
Directed by Tweeten on location at The Broad in Los Angeles during the winter of 2021 and screened very sparsely at places like Barbican Centre (London), Anthology Film Archives (New York) and Le Guess Who? (Utrecht), Promises: Through Congress ties together visual artist Julia Mehretu’s Congress (2003) to the music presented on Promises. Held on the night of the album’s five-year anniversary, the event is the perfect opportunity to discover and revisit the unlikely, but essential pairing of masterminds that resulted not only in one of the defining musical statements of the 2020s so far, but also in a transformative celebration of the rewarding power of music as a medium, well deserving of every minute you spend listening to it.
