Paper pop-ups
Workshop with illustrator Leonor Hungria
Pop-ups em papel

Who has never been surprised and delighted when opening a book and coming across something that defies expectations, like a character that seems to leap off the page? Welcome to the world of pop-ups, a technique that uses folds and cutouts to bring simple sheets of paper to life, making them burst into the third dimension.

In this workshop, led by illustrator Leonor Hungria, we’ll explore the basic principles of pop-up design, creating three-dimensional objects from simple geometric shapes and templates designed by the illustrator herself, all in a relaxed and creative environment. Join us and make your own paper constructions!

About the artist and instructor:
Leonor Hungria was born on November 6, 1977. In 2002, she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics — Education Track from the Faculty of Arts at the University of Lisbon. She worked for five years as a proofreader, translator, and copywriter for several editorial groups, including Impala, Press People, and Nova Vega.

After this professional experience, she decided to follow her childhood dream of becoming a writer and illustrator. She studied Drawing at the National Society of Fine Arts in Lisbon for three years and is currently pursuing a Postgraduate Master’s in Illustration and Animation at the Polytechnic Institute of Cávado and Ave in Barcelos.

She has created character designs for the animated short film A Espuma e o Leão by Cláudio Jordão, has short stories published on the Fábrica do Terror website and in Palavrar magazine, and is the creator of the fanzine Train Wreck, A Miscellany, also released in Portuguese as Train Wreck, Uma Miscelânea in an independent edition.

Her work fits within the gothic and horror genres, often featuring elements of dark humor and absurdity.
