The work of Benoît Bodhuin inhabits a fertile space between rigour and play, where typography ceases to function merely as a system of reading. Drawing on a background that bridges mathematics and design, his practice reveals a particular attention to protocols and structures—not as constraints, but as devices that generate freedom. Both methodical and playful, his approach gives rise to a visual vocabulary that questions notions of legibility, tradition, and convention, moving towards an idea of “words in freedom”.
The invitation to intervene in the Sismógrafo space opens up the possibility of expanding this investigation into a spatial and immersive scale—a verbal installation conceived as a gigantic typographic specimen. The connection with Sismógrafo’s visual identity, notably through the use of Bodhuin's typeface Ballpill, together with his recent deconstructive work on the most classical and legible of French typefaces—Garamond—provides a particularly fertile point of departure: between heritage and reinvention, between classical legibility and contemporary fragmentation. The exhibition proposes not simply to present typography, but to activate it within space, placing visitors inside a system in transformation, where words cease to be fixed and instead operate as living matter, open to experimentation and drift—a manifesto in the making.
