An anarchic mix between a horror comedy in the style of ‘Evil Dead’ and a tragic romance full of blood and some unusual philosophy. Rupert Everett plays Francesco Dellamorte, the gravedigger at Buffalora cemetery, where corpses come back to life seven days after burial. His successive attempts to stop this situation are complicated when he falls in love with a widow who has just lost her husband.

The director, Michele Soavi, was a protégé of Dario Argento and followed in his footsteps as one of the great innovators of Italian horror cinema. The script is adapted from a comic strip by Tiziano Sclavi, creator of the ‘Dylan Dog’ character. Unfortunately, the film ended up representing the last great gasp of the golden age of Italian genre cinema.
