Oficina Arara. A Conspiração Dos Pássaros (A Conspiracy of Birds)
Casa São Roque, Porto, Portugal
October 24th, 2026 to March 28th, 2027
Oficina Arara is an art collective founded in 2010 and based in Porto, Portugal. It is the city’s most public unknown artist, and this is one of its most comprehensive exhibitions to date. On display are over 200 works by a wide variety of contributors, as the collective includes painters, computer scientists, self-taught artists, musicians, printmakers, filmmakers, vernacular architects, writers, engineers, visionary inventors and creators and many others. For five months, Casa de São Roque will be transformed into a “Conspiracy of Birds” and the very refined upper-class house in eastern Porto will turn into an unruly and polyphonic space.
Oficina Arara is two words and a presence. It is one and many. It is political and poetic, explosive and creative, inclusive and exclusive, and it rejects art yet loves it. Oficina Arara is a patchwork, an expansive generator of posters, books, magazines, and performances, an organizer of concerts, parades, and banquets, and a catalyst for political change and social activism. It is A Conspiração Dos Pássaros, A Conspiracy of Birds.
Most people know Oficina Arara from the streets, where many have come across their posters. For example, about a year ago, when screenprints for the Jornadas Contra a Mineração appeared to protest environmental pollution caused by lithium mining in the North of Portugal. It was connected to a series with the slogan “Dinheiro Faz Dinheiro!” (Money Makes Money). Other campaigns were calling out different mayors of Porto for cutting down alternative cultural centers such as the legendary C.C. STOP and the Es.Col.A — Espaço Colectivo Autogesionado do Alto da Fontinha, an autonomous and self-organized space. Each poster looked different; each had been silkscreened and then hand-painted; each was uniquely beautiful, and effective in taking a position.
A Conspiração Dos Pássaros (A Conspiracy of Birds) will present works by, among others, João Alves, Von Calhau, Francisco Amorim, Inês Ballesteros, Serafim Barbosa, Mónica Baptista, Bruno Borges, Maria José Borges, Ruca Bourbon, Nicola Bracci, Mariana Caló & Francisco Queimadela, Ece Canlı, Miguel Carneiro, Comitê Expedicionário de Desorientação, Cecília de Fátima, Daniela Duarte, Gonçalo Duarte, Amélia Fernandes, Gonçalo, Vasja Lebaric, André Lemos, Frederico Lobo, Onree, Louçã, Dayana Lucas, Catarina Miranda, Odair Monteiro, Pedro Nora, João Pádua, Irina Pereira, Sr. Pimenta, Joaquim Pires, Rave Noir, Denic Aleksandar, Angélica Salvi, Dinis Santos, Si2tich, Arlindo Silva, Luís Silva, Rui Silva, Albert Tannat, ZMB.
