"And the sound of water sings in our ears!" wrote Fernando Pessoa/Álvaro de Campos in Ode Marítima (1915), the poem that Eduardo Lourenço considered "one of the most grandiose and profound that the Portuguese language can be proud of". João Grosso has been singing this poem into our ears for over 35 years, in shows and recitals, solo or with musical accompaniment, in theatres, schools, bars, prisons and on the streets. The actor and director now proposes, together with sound designer Francisco Leal, the CD edition of his version of Ode Marítima, combining the plastic value of the spoken word with the possibilities opened up by new audio production technologies. The result is a kind of "sound film" or "a way of staging sound". At this launch session, João Grosso and Francisco Leal talk about the process of creating the work, moderated by writer, literary critic and journalist Filipa Melo. - TNSJ
