The Coliseu Porto Ageas, the main opera stage in the North of Portugal, is premiering a new production of the opera "Il barbiere di Siviglia" (The Barber of Seville)," one of the most acclaimed operas of all time.
In 18th-century Seville, the cheerful barber Figaro helps Count Almaviva win over Rosina. However, Rosina, who is not indifferent to the serenades of her mysterious suitor, is zealously guarded by the old Doctor Bartolo, who, aided by the sinister Don Basilio, aims to marry his ward as quickly as possible.
With a libretto by Cesare Sterbini based on the first of Beaumarchais' "Figaro trilogy" plays, this opera buffa transcends the spirit of the French playwright's comedy, combining absurdity with a touch of satirical realism in a score where rhythm and virtuosity carry the comedy in a continuous dramatic narrative.
The premiere of this new production of "The Barber of Seville will take place on September 27th at 9:00 PM.
