Although miaw are made up of Frederik Fog from Denmark and Liza Dries from the Netherlands, the project didn’t originate in either of their home countries but in Cologne, the German city where they both lived for a while. “We’d almost always end up writing songs when we were supposed to be meeting up for a glass of wine, and we’d end up having a glass of wine when we were supposed to be meeting up to write songs,” they remarked in an interview shortly after releasing their first single, ATT, in the spring of 2024.


This dispersed, spontaneous way of working is reflected in a sound that jumps from distorted pop to deconstructed club music, from trip-hop rhythms to the hangover of hyperpop. A musical assortment, akin to other contemporary projects such as james K, Chanel Beads and Horse Vision, which could be defined as… scroll-pop? Having recently joined the ranks of untitled (recs), the London-based label that is also home to Lauren Auder and deathcrash, miaw will be playing on 13th November in Porto (Maus Hábitos).
