Mau Senso is a contemporary jazz quintet formed in 2023 in Porto. Comprised of Pedro Gonçalves (saxophone), Nuno Santos Silva (trumpet), Gonçalo Marques (piano), Xavier Nunes (double bass), and André Pintado (drums), the group explores the fertile ground between composition and improvisation. Their music resists easy categorization, blending jazz tradition with avant-garde textures, experimental freedom, and a wide range of influences from European jazz and other musical geographies. The result is a sound that is both intricate and unpretentious—direct yet open, meditative yet provocative.

Each performance is rooted in collective creation, where individual expression fuels the group’s dialogue. The sonic landscapes of Mau Senso shift between the contemplative and the energetic, inviting listeners into a space of movement, emotion, and reflection.
