Pianist and composer Jason Moran has been a transformative force in jazz since his rise to stardom in the late 1990s. Beyond the many daring and innovative records he has released – marked by a genuine and deep engagement with African-American history – he composed the scores for Ava DuVernay’s films Selma and 13th, delivered powerful tributes to jazz legends like Thelonious Monk and Fats Waller, and extended his work into other art forms, underlining a steadfast commitment to being a living bridge between eras and geographies of creation.
