The Church of Lapa, in Porto, houses the simulacrum of Saint Martyr Victoria, exhumed from the Roman catacombs in 1779. Richly adorned and accompanied by the vessel of her blood, it was brought to Portugal by D. Francisco de Almada e Mendonça for private veneration. In 1811, the simulacrum was donated to the Irmandade da Lapa, becoming an object of public worship.
During this visit, we will explore the origins, narratives, and materialities of a singular female relic in Portugal.
