Obras que dialogam entre a colagem e a pintura
Folia de João Costa

"Revelry" is a graphic immersion into the Carnival of Northern Portugal, where the sacred and the profane intersect under the sound of rattles and the mystery of masks. Through a visual metaphor, this exhibition explores the imagery of places where time seems to dictate its own rules.

Starting from a minimalist style, the works gathered here are constructed through the dialogue between the cutting of colored papers and the decisive stroke of ink. This technique of supervision and contrast does not seek realism, but the synthesis of capturing the brutal energy of the Caretos (masked figures), the artisanal rigor of the wooden masks, and the vibrant geometry of the costumes.

More than a documentary record, "Revelry" constitutes a personal visual repertoire. It is a reinterpretation of rural landscapes and ancestral knowledge, where carnival traditions are stripped of their accessories to reveal their essence: a celebration of identity, of the land, and of the survival of rituals that, year after year, return magic to the frozen lands.
