It's one of the most enigmatic and curious objects in this cycle of talks about Porto - and one of the most unexpected finds from Porto's archaeological reserves, which is kept in the Porto Museum Reservoir. This fragment of a "meteorite" is associated with Areias Altas, an archaeological site in the city that has several pieces of evidence that place it in the context of the first half of the 2nd millennium BC in the north of Portugal, such as the practice of intentionally depositing artefacts and producing salt by artificial evaporation.
Analysed by TecMinho's Chemical Analysis Laboratory - and still in need of further research - the object has chromium and nickel in its composition, rare and unexpected elements in the geographical context of the find, which justify describing it as a possible "meteorite fragment". Curiosity serves as a pretext to talk about archaeological research in Areias Altas and the process of scientific work and knowledge.
