On 7 November, ICBAS – the Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Porto – will mark International One Health Day with an event open to the public, inviting people to take part in scientific sessions, debates and workshops dedicated to the interconnection between human, animal and environmental health.

The event will take place at the Abel Salazar Building (entrance on Rua Prof. Vicente José de Carvalho, 4050-623 Porto) and the programme includes:

3.00 pm | The Future of Science: One Health in Action, public science outreach sessions, with young researchers presenting projects on topics as diverse as aquaculture, Alzheimer’s disease and companion animals in primary healthcare.

5.00 pm | Health in a Changing Climate, a round-table discussion aimed at promoting reflection and debate on the effects that climate change is already having on human, animal and environmental health, the impacts anticipated for the future, and the measures that can help prevent and mitigate these effects.

3.00 pm and 5.00 pm | Scientists for a Day: One Health Mission. Science workshops for children and young people, where they can be scientists for a day in a fun and hands-on way. Workshop for 6–10-year-olds: Microorganisms on the Loose! Escape if you can! | Workshop for 10–15-year-olds: Pollution Detectives with Magic Plastic. 15 places per workshop.

Participation is free, but subject to prior registration and room capacity.

Come and celebrate International One Health Day with the whole family! Whilst the adults attend the sessions and the debate, the little ones can take part in the workshops and be scientists for a day. An afternoon of discovering, learning and experimenting together!
