Registration is now open for the third edition of the Annual Training Program in Traditional Dances of Guinea-Conakry, led by Mah Camara, a renowned Guinean dancer and educator. Following two highly successful editions, the program returns to Porto, cementing its status as a benchmark project for the transmission of traditional dances from Guinea-Conakry in Portugal.
More than just a dance course, this program offers a continuous learning experience in which technique, musicality, oral transmission, historical context, and artistic expression are developed in an integrated manner. Throughout the year, participants explore various rhythms, dances, and songs, deepening their understanding of the cultural traditions of Guinea-Conakry.
Classes feature live music under the musical direction of Aboubacar Syla, a Guinean singer, multi-instrumentalist, composer, and musical director, whose presence ensures a learning experience rooted in West African traditional modes of transmission.
Designed for dancers, performers, teachers, musicians, and anyone interested in African cultures, the program emphasizes pedagogical guidance, sustained practice, and cultural exchange, creating a space where tradition and contemporary creativity meet.
