Porto welcomes the 6th edition of the CONVIMUS International Music Festival, which turns the city into a global meeting point for artists, students and classical music lovers. With more than 60 hours of live music and free admission shows, the festival expects to welcome around 300 participants from more than 20 countries, in an intensive program that includes concerts, international competitions, specialized training and exhibitions - all open to the public.
This year, CONVIMUS will mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Carlos Paredes, one of the most important and influential Portuguese musicians of the 20th century. Also noteworthy this year is the tour of Brazil in which the winner of the International Violin Competition will take part, together with the AMASING Symphony Orchestra, a unique opportunity for international exposure.
The festival kicks off on July 6 with the “Inverted Concerts” at the emblematic São João da Foz Castle, where young soloists from the AMASING String Orchestra will take to the stage to surprise everyone present. The festival closes on July 27 at the Church of São João da Foz, where the winning soloists of the International Violin Competition will be accompanied by the AMASING Symphony Orchestra performing works by Mozart, Mendelssohn, Freitas Branco and Napoleon.
The festival, which also includes an exhibition of Lutherie's emblematic violins and a painting exhibition with works by José António Rodrigues, is co-produced by UFAFDN (Aldoar, Foz do Douro and Nevogilde Parish Union), the AMASING Cultural Association and the AMASING Symphony Orchestra, and proposes a fusion between tradition and contemporaneity, with concerts that pay homage to figures such as Carlos Paredes, Camões and Camilo Castelo Branco, and the premiere of pieces by Portuguese composers such as Nicolau Medina Ribas and Duarte Costa.
