Plano Trifásico – Album Launch – A Morte da Gárgula
Sofia Teixeira took many courses and collected many gargoyles. She played the saxophone obsessively until around the age of 20, and then realized there was life outside of it. She is a producer, enjoys writing, although she doesn’t do it, and plays with the three-phase collectives. Inês Luzio is from Arganil. She studied the euphonium extensively and even spent a year with it in Lucerne. Over time, she has been part of several contemporary music collectives. She enjoys dance and theater. She does interdisciplinary artistic research. Zé Figueiredo approached music as a self-taught musician. He is a founding member (besides Plano Trifásico) of Peixe:Avião, Smix Smox Smux, and Maquina Del Amor. She is developing the solo project Six Pairs of Consecutive Triangle Numbers, where she transposes geometric concepts into the realm of rhythm, in electronic music.
A bass, a euphonium, and a saxophone walk into a café. Among a series of completely unrelated experiences—classical academic training, punk, processional marching, krautrock, the concept of mentorship, a complete disagreement about what a pick, piston, or its plural is—there is a convergence from the very first moment: the compositional principles of minimalist music, whose parameters unfold into possibilities when these instruments are on the palette.
They explored logics of sequential patterns and manipulated timbres and tunings—whether entirely acoustically or using electronic means. They grew increasingly fond of the long-obvious divergences and found convergences they hadn’t suspected. They agreed that it was better to sign everything together and, together, assassinate the gargoyles that had been exploiting them for so long.
