He is considered one of today’s greatest pianists. Winner of the Van Cliburn, Schubert and Sendai competitions, Ukrainian Vadym Kholodenko combines virtuosity with delicate expressiveness and depth of sound. On his return to Porto, he brings Karl Klindworth’s piano transcription of Mozart’s Requiem. It is said that the brilliant Austrian composer, aware of his fragile health, claimed to be composing the Requiem for his own funeral. An intense work that shows how Mozart sought to deepen his art by combining techniques of his time and the past, leaving us with more questions than answers. The recital also features Hector Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique, a revolutionary piece from the early Romantic period transcribed for piano by Franz Liszt.
