With just two days to go until Christmas Eve, the Baroque Orchestra and Choir immerse us in the spirit of the season. Commissioned for Christmas Day 1725, Johann Sebastian Bach’s cantata ‘Praise be to you, Jesus Christ’ features choral sections of great vitality that continue to impress. From Handel, master of memorable melodies and orchestral exuberance, we can hear the Music for the Royal Fireworks, a work commissioned for the celebrations marking the end of the War of the Austrian Succession in 1749. We also explore the majestic sounds of the French Baroque with Charpentier and conclude with the luminous Gloria by Bach. Merry Christmas!
