Techno-animism is the idea that technological objects, far from being merely neutral tools, may contain a form of agency, presence, or even ‘spirit’. As in animist traditions, where souls are recognised in stones, rivers or trees, techno-animism proposes that machines, algorithms or digital systems can also be understood as living entities, with which we relate affectively, symbolically or spiritually. Taking place at Easter, this concert aims to raise questions about the space for the sacred in the contemporary world, the role of error, noise and failure as expressive and deeply human elements, and the faith we place in machines, which are so important for our future.
