A piano, violin and cello trio delves into the universe of Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto, who passed away in 2023, revisiting the album 1996 through its original and seldom-performed scores. The concert’s repertoire – a sensory experience enhanced by a strong multimedia component – includes works created for the soundtracks of landmark films such as The Last Emperor, Babel, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, and Wuthering Heights. These pieces enter into a dialogue with themes from the album 2016, composed by the trio’s pianist and founder, João Vasco.
