Kohelet is the Hebrew name for the biblical book of Ecclesiastes and is also the title of vibraphonist Ricardo Coelho’s first album, released in 2025 by Carimbo Porta-Jazz. In the liner notes, Coelho quotes a passage from this book – “Cast your wheat upon the sea, and after a while you shall gather it in” – to pose a question that runs through the album: “I don’t know if it was the water, but behold, something sprang up within me. Deluded? Perhaps…”

With gospel as his foundation, the Porto-based vibraphonist is renowned for the versatility that takes him from jazz to world music and hip-hop. With his quintet, Ricardo Coelho now presents the tracks from his debut album in a concert forming part of the Estação Jazz Festival.
