The richness of writing for wind orchestra is at the heart of this concert, which brings together Portuguese and international composers in a programme of great aesthetic diversity. The journey begins with a score by Marcos Romão, a leading figure of the clarinet in Portugal in the 20th century, followed by a symphony by Onsby Rosae, a work commissioned by 77 international groups. The second part includes Bodas de Sangre by the Spanish composer León Durán, a symphonic poem inspired by Federico García Lorca’s tragedy of the same name, and culminates with Pedro Pires’ musical evocation of the first aerial crossing of the South Atlantic by Gago Coutinho and Sacadura Cabral.
