The many ways of reinterpreting tradition lie at the heart of this concert by the Portuguese Symphonic Band, paying tribute to one of the most important composers in our history, Fernando Lopes-Graça. The programme includes the famous Suite Rústica No. 3, a work that transforms regional dances through its personal and distinctive language. This is joined by a score by Nélson Jesus, which establishes a direct dialogue with the composer by quoting the famous chorus “Acordai” from the Canções Heróicas. Also of note is the inclusion of Danças Concertantes by Sérgio Azevedo, a work from 2020 featuring João Casimiro Almeida as soloist, one of the most highly regarded Portuguese pianists of his generation.
