On All Saints’ Day, Christians commemorate those who have passed away. It was also on this day that the great Lisbon earthquake struck, killing thousands of people, many of them in the very churches where they were paying homage to their dead. This deeply spiritual programme takes its starting point from Psalm 130 – “Out of the depths I cry to you, Lord” – revisited by composers from different backgrounds. Words that reveal themselves as a sincere appeal, born from the depths of despair, for forgiveness and divine redemption. The line-up includes a work that Pärt wrote in memory of the victims of the attack in Madrid on 11 March 2004, revealing his characteristic style that reminds us of the resonance of bells.
