Described as a “powerful” pianist by critics, Spain’s Leo de María has won over 50 awards in international competitions and is considered one of the best artists of his generation. In his debut with the Porto Casa da Música Symphony Orchestra, he will perform Bachianas Brasileiras No. 3, a score that treats the piano as an integral part of the ensemble and in which the influence of the dances of northern and north-eastern Brazil is evident. The programme is completed with the last of Sergei Rachmaninoff’s three symphonies, recognised by the composer himself as one of his best works.
