Chinese calligraphy is a thousand-year-old art that brings together writing, balance, and inner expression.
This workshop offers a unique experience to celebrate the Chinese New Year, allowing participants to come into direct contact with a deep and symbolic cultural tradition.
Session 1 (February 8)
In the first session, the instructor will give a general introduction to the art of Chinese calligraphy.
Participants will then be guided in the use of brushes, learning basic techniques, hand pressure control, and the rhythm of writing.
They will learn to write in the Seal Script (篆书, zhuànshū), one of the oldest styles of Chinese calligraphy.
Session 2 (February 15)
In the second session, participants will further develop the techniques learned and be introduced to the Regular Script (楷书, kǎishū), one of the most commonly used styles in Chinese writing.
Based on the practice from both sessions, each participant will create their first Chinese calligraphy artwork.
As part of an important Chinese New Year tradition, participants will also write the character 福 (fú), a symbol of good fortune, on red paper, to wish for a New Year filled with happiness, health, and prosperity.
In addition, at the end of the second session, the instructor will write Spring Couplets (春联, chūnlián), which will be offered to each participant as a special Chinese New Year gift, making this experience even more memorable.
