Authentic Jazz is an African American dance form developed within Black communities in the United States, deeply connected to Jazz music and Swing culture. Characterised by rhythm, improvisation and individual expression, it is also at the roots of much of the movement vocabulary found in Swing dances.
Led by Edmilson Botelho, these regular beginners' classes offer an introduction to Authentic Jazz through its fundamental movements, rhythm, musicality and improvisation, while also exploring the history and cultural context in which the dance developed.
Beyond learning sequences, the classes invite participants to explore the relationship between body and music and develop their own individual expression through dance.
No previous dance experience is required.
An initiative by Associação Bamu Zunta Mon, in Porto.
