Edmilson Botelho's Afro Jazz emerges from an encounter between references from traditional dances of São Tomé and Príncipe and Angola and Authentic Jazz, an African American dance form developed in close connection with Jazz music and Black culture in the United States.

Through this approach, different movement languages meet through rhythm, musicality, groove and bodily expression. The classes explore the connections and contrasts between these dances, looking at how different movements, rhythms and movement qualities can enter into dialogue without losing their cultural references and identities.

Edmilson Botelho's approach is also inspired by the work of André Vasco, a pioneer of Afro Swing in Maputo, whose practice brings African references into dialogue with movement languages associated with Swing and Jazz.

The classes are open to everyone, with or without previous dance experience.
