The overture to the opera The Sniper is the best-known symphonic movement by German composer Karl Maria von Weber and one of the most played overtures by orchestras around the world. It is also a concertante work that brings to the stage the acclaimed Portuguese bassoonist Rui Lopes, a soloist with a long career whose most recent CD, recorded in Switzerland, was enthusiastically received by international critics. The concert, conducted by British conductor Kerem Hasan, culminates with the marvellous naturalistic landscape that Beethoven expressed in his Pastoral Symphony.
