Aníbal Zola is a double bassist and singer-songwriter from Porto.
In recent years, he has increasingly embraced fado—as a singer, bassist, and especially as a writer of poems for traditional fado. In particular, he focuses on fado with an interventionist lyrical content, driven by a clear sense of mission, aiming to break the idea that the poetic language of this music is limited to themes of sadness, nostalgia, or love.
In the face of a dystopian world, Aníbal Zola started the online column “Cegada Digital,” a nod to the cegadas, a musical form once widespread in Portugal and at the origin of fado. In this column, he addresses current topics, transformed into poems for traditional fado—a “sing the news,” as if Woody Guthrie had been born in the parish of Bonfim.
In this concert, Aníbal Zola and his double bass perform these pieces live, with the participation of Guilherme Morais on the Portuguese guitar.
