Join contemporary artist Kandice Kardell for an introduction to creating experimental yarns from algae, a biomaterial used in biodesign and sustainable textile practices. Through hands-on making, participants transform liquid alginate into soft filament-like strands.

Participants will experiment with mixing, extruding, twisting, and drying alginate strands to create yarns that can be woven, stitched, or knotted. The addition of natural pigments and yarn modification using other media will be explored.

Participants leave with handmade samples and foundational techniques for working with algae-based biomaterials.

This workshop is perfect for artists and individuals interested in sustainable new materials, textiles, crochet, weaving, knitting, and anyone playfully curious!

Participants can optionally participate in a mini exhibition during Kardell's exhibition finissage in September.
