The piece was originally designed for the performance “Próspero”, directed by Pedro Galiza, and was created to emerge from the sand and support Jorge Pinto himself on stage. Now, outside the theatre, it gains a new interpretation as an artistic object, a narrative sculpture and a material trace of a theatrical fiction.
The interest of the exhibition lies precisely in this intersection between theatre, visual arts, scenic memory and literature: a chair born on stage that arrives in the gallery as an autonomous work, carrying with it a poetic narrative around Prospero, the island, absence and the search for its creator.
