As part of the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, which takes place on 17 May, the Goethe-Institut Portugal and the University of Porto are presenting Diverse Affections - an exhibition of German LGBTQIA+ films, taking place during the month of May in the Common House of the UPorto Rectory.

This cycle features four award-winning contemporary films that tackle different themes around sexuality and gender identity. Between coming-of-age dramas, naturalist films and documentaries, each of the screenings will serve as a motto for a conversation with the audience.

Combating discrimination, violence and prejudice against LGBTQIA+ people around the world is the premise of the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT). 17 May 1990 is the day on which the World Health Organisation stopped considering homosexuality a mental disorder, marking a significant step in the fight against the stigmatisation of non-normative sexual orientations and gender identities. The first official IDAHOBIT took place on 17 May 2005. At the time, the day was known as ‘IDAHO’, or International Day Against Homophobia. In 2015, it reached the proportions we know today: a day to encourage individuals, organisations and governments to take action to defend the rights of LGBTQIA+ people, creating safer and more inclusive environments.
