Two of the most distinctive voices in Portuguese music will take to the BABELL stage for a pair of special concerts. The performances by Bárbara Bandeira and Carminho bring together two very different yet equally influential artistic journeys within contemporary Portuguese music. Their appearance at BABELL, following the success of their collaboration “Onde Vais”, represents a symbolic meeting of generations: on one side, the contemporary pop and urban sensibility of Bárbara Bandeira; on the other, Carminho’s singular ability to renew and reinterpret tradition. Together, they promise an evening of intensity and emotion, with Carminho opening the programme.
One of the leading voices of a new generation of Portuguese pop artists, Bárbara Bandeira consolidated her status with her debut album Finda (2023), a work distinguished by its strong narrative and aesthetic identity, exploring themes of personal transformation and emotional maturity. More recently, she has developed the conceptual project Lusa, launched with Lusa: Act I (2025), through which she has expanded her collaborations across the Portuguese-speaking world, working with artists such as Veigh, WIU and EU.CLIDES. This year, she unveiled Lusa: Act II, a continuation of the project that celebrates Portuguese cultural roots and includes an artistic homage to Amália Rodrigues, bringing her legacy into dialogue with a new generation of Portuguese music. Her ability to create widely successful songs has consistently placed her among the most streamed artists in Portugal and at the forefront of national radio airplay.
Carminho, meanwhile, has established herself as one of the foremost figures in Portuguese music and contemporary fado, admired both for the emotional depth of her performances and for her openness to international musical dialogue. Her latest album, Eu Vou Morrer de Amor ou Resistir (2025), further develops her distinctive artistic voice, bringing together original compositions and collaborations that expand the traditional boundaries of fado. Throughout her career, she has worked with artists including Marisa Monte, Caetano Veloso, Chico Buarque, Pablo Alborán and Rosalía, maintaining a remarkable presence both within the classical fado tradition and in projects that embrace musical experimentation and cross-cultural exchange.
